दिवाळी किंवा दीपावली हा दिव्यांचा सण देशभरात साजरा केला जातो.

कार्तिक महिन्यात साजरा केला जाणारा दिव्यांचा सण साधारणपणे पाच दिवस चालतो, धनत्रयोदशीपासून सुरू होतो, त्यानंतर नरक चतुर्दशी (छोटी दिवाळी), लक्ष्मी पूजन (बडी दिवाळी), गोवर्धन पूजा आणि भाई दूज.

दीपावलीचा उगम संस्कृत शब्द खोल (दीप) आणि वाली (पंक्ती) पासून झाला आहे. याचा शाब्दिक अर्थ "दिव्यांची पंक्ती" असा होतो.

मातीचे दिवे लावून हा सण साजरा केला जातो जरी दिवाळी हा मुख्यतः हिंदू सण मानला जात असला तरी, हा दिवस वेगवेगळ्या समुदायांमध्ये वेगवेगळ्या घटनांना चिन्हांकित करतो.

सर्वत्र, दिवाळी आध्यात्मिक "अंधारावर प्रकाशाचा, वाईटावर चांगल्याचा आणि अज्ञानावर ज्ञानाचा विजय" याचे प्रतीक आहे.

लोक दिवाळी का साजरी करतात याची 12 कारणे येथे आहेत:

१.रावणाच्या पराभवानंतर राम अयोध्येला परतला:

हिंदू महाकाव्य रामायणानुसार, भगवान राम, त्यांचा भाऊ लक्ष्मण आणि त्यांची पत्नी सीता राक्षस राजा रावणाचा पराभव करून 14 वर्षांच्या वनवासानंतर अयोध्येला परतले.

२.कृष्णाने नरकासुराचा वध केला:

द्वापर युगात, भगवान विष्णूचा अवतार असलेल्या भगवान श्रीकृष्णाने, सध्याच्या आसामजवळील प्राग्ज्योतिषपुराचा दुष्ट राजा नरकासुर या राक्षसाचा वध केला, ज्याने 16,000 मुलींना कैदेत ठेवले होते. उत्तर भारतातील ब्रज प्रदेशात, आसामचा काही भाग, तसेच दक्षिणेकडील तमिळ आणि तेलगू समुदायांमध्ये, नरक चतुर्दशीला कृष्णाने नरकासुराचा वध केला तो दिवस म्हणून पाहिले जाते.

३.पांडव हस्तिनापूरला परतले:

पाच पांडव भाऊ जुगारात एक पैज गमावण्यास फसले होते आणि त्यानंतर त्यांच्या कौरव चुलत भावांनी त्यांना 12 वर्षांसाठी देशाबाहेर काढले. हिंदू महाकाव्य महाभारतानुसार, कार्तिक अमावस्येला पांडव हस्तिनापूरला परतले.

४.देवी लक्ष्मीचा जन्म:

दुसर्‍या प्रचलित परंपरेनुसार, दिवाळी हा दिवस म्हणून साजरी केली जाते ज्या दिवशी देवी लक्ष्मीचा जन्म समुद्र अमंथममधून झाला होता, देव आणि राक्षसांनी दुधाच्या वैश्विक समुद्राचे मंथन केले होते. दिवाळीच्या रात्री लक्ष्मीने विष्णूला पती म्हणून निवडले आणि त्याच्याशी लग्न केले.

५.विष्णूने लक्ष्मीचा उद्धार केला:

असे मानले जाते की भगवान विष्णूने आपल्या पाचव्या वामन-अवतारात देवी लक्ष्मीची राजा बळीच्या तुरुंगातून सुटका केली. या दिवशी भगवान विष्णूच्या आदेशानुसार बळी राजाला भूतकाळावर राज्य करण्यासाठी हद्दपार करण्यात आले.

६.बंदी चोर दिवस:

शीख धर्मात दिवाळीचा संबंध ऐतिहासिक घटनेशी आहे. गुरू हरगोविंद, सहावे शीख गुरू, इतर 52 हिंदू राजांसह, मुघल सम्राट जहांगीरच्या कैदेतून दिवाळीच्या दिवशी मुक्त झाले.

७.महावीर निर्वाण दिवस:

जैन धर्मात, सध्याच्या वैश्विक युगातील चोविसावे आणि शेवटचे जैन तीर्थंकर महावीरांच्या आत्म्याच्या निर्वाणाची जयंती पाळण्यासाठी दिवाळीचा सण साजरा केला जातो. कार्तिक महिन्याच्या चतुर्दशीला महावीरांना मोक्ष (मुक्ती) प्राप्त झाली.

८.महर्षी दयानंदांनी निर्वाण प्राप्त केले:

कार्तिक महिन्याच्या अमावास्येला आर्य समाजाचे संस्थापक महर्षी दयानंद यांनी निर्वाण प्राप्त केले.

९.महाराजा विक्रमादित्यचा राज्याभिषेक:

प्रख्यात हिंदू राजा विक्रमादित्य यांचा दिवाळीला राज्याभिषेक झाला. औदार्य, धैर्य आणि विद्वानांच्या संरक्षणासाठी ओळखला जाणारा एक आदर्श राजा म्हणून त्याचे वैशिष्ट्य आहे.

10.काली पूजा:

शाक्त धर्माच्या कलिकुल पंथानुसार, देवी महाकालीचे शेवटचे स्वरूप असलेल्या कमलात्मिकाच्या अवताराचा दिवस कमलात्मिका जयंती म्हणून साजरा केला जातो. दीपावलीच्या दिवशी येते. काली पूजा बंगाल, मिथिला, ओडिशा, आसाम, सिल्हेट, चितगाव आणि महाराष्ट्रातील टिटवाळा या प्रदेशात साजरी केली जाते.

११.कापणीचा हंगाम संपला:

दुसर्‍या प्रचलित समजुतीनुसार, दिवाळीचा उगम हा कापणीचा सण म्हणून झाला असावा, जो हिवाळ्यापूर्वी वर्षातील शेवटचा हंगाम म्हणून ओळखला जातो.

१२.नवीन वर्ष म्हणून दिवाळी:

गुजरातसारख्या पश्चिमेकडील राज्यांमध्ये आणि भारतातील काही उत्तरेकडील हिंदू समुदायांमध्ये, दिवाळीचा सण नवीन वर्षाची सुरुवात दर्शवतो.
